Walker High School

The Livingston Parish School Board realized the need to redevelop the Walker High School campus. The existing campus educated 10th through 12th grades, while a remote school educated 9th grade. Ziler Architects was selected to evaluate the needs of the existing upper grade level campus, in order to bring the 9th grade class to the main campus permanently, and design new buildings to accommodate those needs. Phase one of the project consisted of the new state of the art buildings (Classroom, Music, Cafeteria, Industrial Arts, and Gymnasium buildings, as well as Athletic Film Room renovations) to accommodate the upper school grades, while phase two will consist of renovating and upgrading the existing school to house the 9th grade. As part of the redevelopment of the Walker High School campus, the new classroom building consists of Administrative offices, Library, 29 Classrooms, 2 Science Labs, Spirit Store, and Credit Union. The new Gymnasium building consists of a Basketball court with Spectator seating for 1,900, Coaches offices, Home and Visitors locker rooms for both boys and girls teams, Lobby gathering area, and Concessions stand. The new cafeteria building consists of a Dining room (approximately 500 capacity), Kitchen, restrooms, and a 4,600 square foot outdoor commons/dining space. The new Music building consists of a state of the art Rehearsal room, Practice rooms, Classroom, and ample instrument storage. The new Industrial Arts building consists of Carpentry and Welding Shops, Agriculture workspace with Greenhouse, and Classrooms. Walker High School athletics outgrew their facilities as the school population continued to rise. Ziler Architects was retained to evaluate the needs of the athletic department. An addition and renovation to an existing secondary Gymnasium was the result. The new facility houses Athletic Weight rooms, multiple locker rooms for various sports, Coaches office, and Athletic Training room, along with site upgrades to the public approach to the football stadium, including entrance gate and ticket booth. |
